Department Philosophy
The Craft & Technology Department oversees students’ learning in four key disciplines: Art, Design & Technology, Music, and Nutrition & Food Science. Our mission is to foster students’ creativity, innovation and practical skills, and equip them with the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to excel in these fields. We are dedicated to helping students discover their passions, engage in authentic examinations of the world around them, and recognise their unique value to others. Our department offers a supportive and stimulating environment where students can pursue their interests, hone their talents and prepare for a successful and fulfilling career.
Our Instructional Programmes
Our Art, Music, D&T and NFS curricula share a common goal: to help students discover and develop their passions and talents.
Learning is designed around authentic, real-world challenges that encourage inquiry, creative and critical thinking, and purposeful problem-solving. Students are given opportunities to make choices, explore ideas and express their unique perspectives.
Technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), is integrated into learning to support understanding, exploration, design and making.
Our classrooms are often filled with constructive noise - students discussing ideas, experimenting, collaborating and creating. These are hallmarks of the active, engaging and purposeful learning experiences we strive to provide.
Beyond the Classroom
Learning extends beyond the classroom through enrichment programmes that broaden students' experiences and deepen their interests.
Our enrichment experiences include:
Aesthetic Enrichment: Workshops for all Secondary 1-3 students to explore different art forms.
Artist-in-School Scheme (AISS): Opportunities for Secondary 3 Art students to learn and create alongside practising artists.
Our Ceramic Legacy: Secondary 2 students design and create ceramic tiles that are installed in the school for permanent display.
Design Enrichment: Workshops for Secondary 3 D&T students to explore authentic design practices and processes.
Culinary Learning: Learning journeys and hands-on workshops at culinary schools for Secondary 3 NFS students.
Art Learning Journeys: Visits to National Gallery Singapore and other arts venues.
Loyang View's Got Talent (LVGT): A platform for emerging performers to showcase their talents, with opportunities to progress to the Spotlight Programme.
Spotlight Programme (hyperlink to TDP webpage): Part of the school's Talent Development Plan, Spotlight provides students with a passion for Art, Music and Performance with opportunities to refine their skills, develop their creative voices and showcase their talents through performances, exhibitions and other authentic experiences.
Celebrating Talent - LVSS Kaleidoscope
LVSS Kaleidoscope is our biennial celebration of student creativity and talent across the visual, culinary, literary and performing arts.
First held in 2024, the event brings together parents, alumni and the wider LVSS community for a vibrant celebration of the arts. Audiences are treated to performances by our Dance, Drama and Symphonic Band CCAs, alongside captivating performances by members of our Spotlight Programme.
Beyond the stage, visitors can enjoy art exhibitions, live artmaking and culinary stations serving up delicious treats. A feast for the senses, Kaleidoscope is a celebration of our students' creativity, passion and talent - and a time for them to shine.
